This is a medium threshold temporary accommodation and support service which provides for twenty-six homeless adult males in Limerick. For thirty years, it was run by the Alexian Brothers, before Novas Initiatives took it over in December 2005. We accept both self referrals and referrals from the Homeless Persons’ Centre.
Many residents are elderly and need constant care around their diet, their hygiene and their mobility, as well as close monitoring of their daily drinking. We work with quite a high level of clients who are prone to quite serious mental health difficulties which go hand in hand with their addiction. In recent times, we have had to deal with an increasing amount of clients presenting with physical disabilities who are unable to be cared for in a nursing home setting due to their addictions/challenging behaviour. We also offer a meals service to some very vulnerable residents in the locality.
