Come dine with me & Something to do on a Thursday in McGarry House

On Tuesday, June 28th, a very special dinner party took place in McGarry House. Clients Jonathan Haran and Alan O’Shea who successfully completed the in-house Come Cook With Me cookery programme cooked a three course meal for 50 guests. They worked extremely hard preparing for the event with catering manager Fionnuala O’Brien who had been teaching them how to cook one course each week. The project’s
staff happily provided tasting duties during this time!

After dinner, a choir comprised of service users and staff from homeless services, the Learning Hub and Music Generation Limerick, made their debut performance. This choir which had been meeting for weekly practise was dubbed ‘Something To Do On a Thursday’! McGarry House clients and staff hugely enjoyed participating in this project. The songs performed on the day were Iko Iko, Toto’s Africa and the Beatle’s In My Life. McGarry house client, Rachel Casey, sang a solo, Sarah McLachlin’s In The Arms of An Angel. McGarry House looks forward to continuing to engage in this project in the Autumn.

Come Cook With Me is a precursor to a new more detailed catering programme that Fionnuala will be providing in-house designed to assist clients interested in catering to return to the workforce.
