McGarry House, Limerick

The project aims to provide thirty single homeless men and women with a safe and caring environment and the space to deal with the many issues they have. We accommodate thirty adults and accept both self referrals and referrals from external agencies, including Limerick’s Homeless Persons’ Centre. The project does not have a curfew and offers facilities on a twenty-four hour basis. This includes a dedicated ‘crash facility’. When the client arrives, the staff make an initial assessment and offer emergency accommodation. The person is subsequently referred to the service/s best suited to their needs.

In June 2009, the project moved to new premises at McGarry House, Alphonsus Street. In August 2011, refurbishment commenced on  thirty- seven units of long term supported housing, in addition to the existing thirty unit facility, will be provided by the scheme’s current staff team. It is anticipated that this scheme will become a model for service provision going forward.
