Some of the volunteering opportunities that are currently available with Novas are:
Street Outreach (Soup Run):
Our Street Outreach programme provides meals to service users every evening in Limerick City Ccentre. The people visiting this service are amongst those most in need in our community. The programme is provided opn qa voluntary basis and currently a team of 40 volunteers assist with this programme. New applicants will receive training and suport throughout their volunteering term.
This is a “Buddy System” that has recently been set up in Novas. As part of this programme, volunteers will be partnered up with a client in our Limerick, Tralee and Thurles Services. The aim of this programme is to offer clients support, friendship and re-engagement in their local communities. Applicants for this role will undergo bespoke training and will be aligned to a project worker in our service.
Novas Initiatives are very fortunate to be part of the Foodcloud Programme. www.foodcloud.ie. On a number of different nights every week we benefit from donations of un-sold food at various Tesco’s around the country. These donations are collected by a team of volunteers some of whom use their own vehicles and others using a Novas vehicle. This team are also called upon from time to time to carry out ad hoc driving requirements. Applicants for this role must possess a full clean driving licence and be over 25 years of age.
Unique Volunteer Skills:
If you have a particular skill or hobby that you think might benefit Novas clients, we would love to meet you and see how we could integrate you into one of our many services. Past examples of such volunteers include aroma therapists, artists and beauticians who were all able to share their hobbies/skills with our clients. Garda Clearance would be required for this role.
Fundraising plays a vital role in maintaining the services Novas provide throughout the country (for a full list of services see http://www.novas.ie/services). We are always looking for people who are interested in supporting Novas for a series of different events throughout the year. If you are interested in organising or taking part in one of the many runs throughout the country, coordinating a table quiz, charity sports events, taking part in street collections, bag packing or any other event, please let us know. All money raised goes directly to maintaining our services.
All Novas volunteers undergo induction training and the Garda vetting process.
