Denis Allen Tribute Night in Aid of Novas

Since the 60’s Denis Allen has been involved in the music scene in Limerick and his most famous song, Limerick you’re a Lady has become the city’s enduring anthem. On Thursday 1 March at 8pm, Allen and a variety of musicians are hosting a concert in the Greenhills Hotel in aid of Novas.

Allen played with a number of showbands throughout the sixties including The Berwyn, The Jack Glynn Quintet and Ding A Ling and wrote many songs for a range of artists throughout the decades. The tribute concert will acknowledge Allen’s contribution to music, especially in Limerick. Bryan Meehan is musical director for the event and will introduce artists including The Hub Big Band, Shaun O’Dowd, The Anchor Chamber Choir and the O’Rouke School of Dancing, as well as many more. The MC on the night will be RTE’s Lorcan Murray.

Novas is the largest provider of homeless services in Limerick and throughout the Mid-West region. In 2017, the organisation worked with approximately 4,000 individuals and families who were homeless or at risk of homelessness. Head of Communications with the organisation, Una Burns, said ‘they were most grateful to the wonderful host of entertainers for preforming on the night and raising vital fund for Novas. All the money raised will go towards Novas’ Intensive Family Support Service and Housing First Service in the city’. She went on to say that ‘it promises to be a fantastic evening of song and dance and we’re all very much looking forward to it.’

Tickets cost €20, with all proceeds going to Novas. They can be purchased from Savins Music Store on O’Connell Street, Steamboat Music on Steamboat Quay, Hook and Ladder on Sarsfield Street and SuperValu in Corbally. For further information on this event you can contact Chris O’Connor on 061 370325.
