GECAS renovate NOVAS’ Respite House
We would like to extend a huge thank you to the GECAS volunteers who transformed the unused garage space of the Respite House into a new peer group room – The Respite Lodge. The fantastic group of dedicate volunteers renovated the large space to create a calm and welcoming environment for the families of people in addiction. The room will now be used for group support sessions and will allow the respite House to support more families. The volunteers also painted the exterior of the house and upgraded the beautiful gardens.
IFS Nappy Appeal
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated to our Intensive Family Support Service Nappy Appeal. A huge thank you to GECAS staff who arrived with a donation of 300 bags of nappies!!! We can’t thank you enough, especially Susie McMahon who organised the appeal and Valerie Kearns, Deirdre Williams and Charlotte Nestor. How cute is baby Adam, our youngest donor!
Thanks also to Aldi for a €200 instore voucher for nappies. And to every individual who so kindly dropped in baby stuff in the last couple of weeks. We could not do what we do without all your support.
This month we are working with 97 families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and your generosity has just made their lives that little bit easier and has allowed our staff concentrate on securing accommodation.
World Rugby
On a sweltering Thursday World Rugby sent in a dozen of their staff to the Abigail Women’s Centre in Finglas to continue transforming a courtyard area in to a garden retreat for the residents. Not only are World Rugby volunteering their staff but they are also part-funding the project. The entire project has been coordinated with Volunteer Ireland and our own volunteering department.
We are at the half-way point of the project and it is really shaping up. The probation services built the raised beds and yesterday a ton of drainage material, six tons of topsoil and a ton of compost were wheel-barrowed in to the beds and they were filled and planted with a range of perennial and evergreen plants by both World Rugby staff and our residents. In addition to that, the extensive courtyard had been repainted and the new Gazebo received two weatherproof treatments.
If your business would like to get involved in a project with NOVAS we are happy to support your Corporate Social Responsibility Programme and you can contact Chris on 083-4536813.
Shannon Catering College
In May Shannon College of Hotel Management donated more than €6,700 to NOVAS’ services in the Mid-West Region. We would like to extend a huge thank you to all the staff and students of the college for choosing NOVAS as their charity partner for the 2016/17 academic year. The charity committee worked tirelessly throughout the year to organise a number of events in aid of NOVAS including a ‘Dancing with the Stars’ event, ‘Lip Sync’ and participating in our annual Christmas Sleep Out. It was a pleasure to partner with the college and we very grateful for the vital funds they raised.
The Curragower Singers
Once again The Curraghgower Singers under the baton of Timothy Shinnick held a recital at St. Augustine’s Church in Limerick in aid of NOVAS. The recital took place directly after 11:15 mass on Sunday 2nd July. We wish to extend a huge thank you to the Curraghgower singers for their ongoing support of NOVAS services.
